Israel's blacklist of organizations supporting BDS

On Sunday, Israel’s Strategic Affairs Ministry published a list of 20 organisations whose leading figures will be banned from entering Israel. Their crime? Calling for the nonviolent strategy of boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) in response to Israel’s ongoing violations of international humanitarian and human rights law. We proudly join our colleagues here in the UK from War on Want and Friends of Al Aqsa, as well as our many friends and partners in the global solidarity movement, on that list.

We are not intimidated by these measures. There is only one reason why Israel is escalating its anti-BDS activities; the global BDS movement is winning.

Through this measure, Israel not only seeks to prevent peaceful human rights activists from entering Israel, but also from entering the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, where Israel has no sovereignty; further isolating Palestinians from the world outside and preventing Palestinian and global civil society actors from engaging with each other. One such organisation is the grassroots non-violent group Youth Against Settlements, coordinated by internationally renowned human rights campaigner, Issa Amro, who is currently on trial in an Israeli military court on a series of trumped up charges; a trial condemned by Amnesty International (https://www.amnesty.org.uk/drop-charges-against-palestine-human-rights-defenders-israel) , who have identified Issa as a prisoner of conscience if convicted.
