St James' Place, Brighton
These photos were taken on 6 June 2008 of the gate at St James' Place, Brighton that was constructed as a result of the "stopping-up Order" made by Brighton and Hove City Council. They show that the gate was blocked shut in the middle of the day and that bell-pushes to the houses on the Place have been placed at this gate. The original planning permission that was granted only allowed the gate to be locked during the hours of darkness.
This posting is a carry-on from the previous one. The system wouldn't take five photos so we reduced it to four which it took. The other four are below.
Brighton and Hove City Council have made a draft Gating Order to gate Farman Street, Hove under the Highways Act 1980. I and others have resisted this. I shall be adding a post and perhaps a dossier on this subject in the next few weeks. In the meantime please see four photos of Farman Street taken in January 2008. For technical reasons I have had to put another three into a seperate posting.
I am a Campaigner on several issues. The main one at the local level is to make the public space more attractive and accessible to everyone. As a person with both sight and hearing problems this is a cause very dear to my heart. I also campaign against ill-thought-out building developments. I am active on a national and international level with such bodies as Sense and RNIB. In addition I am an active member of Families Need Fathers (FNF) which campaigns for equal access to children by both parents following family breakdown.
